Last week I thought my Dad was on death’s door after his stroke, as did the doctors. So we have all been surprised that he is still with us, and even eating (this time last week he couldn’t swallow). I’ve been spending time with both him and my Mum but one of the blessings of my work is that I can often do it from anywhere.  So I’ve been continuing with getting my new book ready, and working on my new 5 day challenge (Start Your Living Legacy) which I am getting really excited about.  You’ll hear about it very soon 🙂

One thing that death teaches you is about being here right now. My dad was happily eating his egg and toast for breakfast when suddenly the stroke happened. We pretend our whole lives that we know what is going to happen, and really, deep down, we also know that we haven’t a clue. Life (and death) takes its own ways, and we get to follow. A humbling thought.

So today I just want to invite you to practice ‘being here now’ in every moment (or at least as often as you can).

One way to do this is also associated with my Dad. He and my Mum had been making a point of smiling on the hour, every hour during the day.

My invitation to you is to do this, and also to take those moments to pay attention to what your thoughts and feelings are in that moment. In other words, on the hour, every hour, smile; be where you are, fully present, simply noticing what is happening.

No judgment, no criticism, no praise – just noticing. And take some of my Dad’s smile with you!

Jane, I am so glad to have found this about your father. He and your Mum are my oldest friends, (from Gorebridge school in 1957) and they have been very much on my mind, since I heard of his stroke. So very glad to know he is better! I’m on holiday in Fife now but home Saturday, and will be in touch with your Mum when I get back to York. Give her my love when you can. I love the ‘being there’ philosophy, that’s what I try to do too.
Don’t know if you remember, but we met at their Diamond Party, two years ago.

I do remember Christina, and I saw you on Facebook and wondered if it was the same person I had met. Mum will be very pleased
